  1. We are in the middle of a run of Blackadder where 2 arrows are fired at Baldrick - one hits the target he is holding above his head and the other doesn't in fact enter his body as his w*lly gets in the way. We used the tried and trusted "push the arrow through from the back of the set" method with the proviso to the actor that if he is not standing in the right place the arrow may indeed enter his body. Use your imagination. In the TV series he ends up pinned to the door but this proved too difficult to set up so he stands next to the door instead. The target is attached to the set and he just appears to be holding it. Once the arrow is in the target he can move away leaving the target apparently pinned to the wall. Because of the nature of the preceding scene change (on a revolve) there is no time to set up anything complicated or even use elastic so the arrows are just pushed through on cue by someone behind the flat.
  2. That's quite a short hire period . . .
  3. Mark the frame every metre or 500mm to give a quick at a glance tube length to save having to dig through the pile each time
  4. I used to use a mixture of Boots own brand red food colouring mixed with swarfega and cornflour to make washable stage blood. Experiment with quantities as I can't remember the ratio. Bear in mind that this was many years ago and the recipe for the food colouring has probably changed - try a test piece before upsetting your wardrobe department.
  5. Bend a wire coat hanger into a suitable double hook design?

  7. Our tabs fly in and out so the handline is not an issue for them. But when I do rig tracks with a handline I tend to put a quarter twist in the lines to the floor pulley so that the offstage cord opens the curtain and the onstage cord closes it.
  8. This may seem like a silly question but is there a "correct" way for FoH tabs to overlap - either on a track or dead hung on a bar? I have come up with a logical reason for doing it one way but wondered whether anyone else always did it one way or the other. In our little theatre we have the stage left curtain hung downstage of the stage right curtain - my reasoning being that anyone entering through the curtains to make an announcement for example will most likely be entering from the direction of the SM desk having liaised with the SM before barging through. The upstage curtain gets paged upstage leaving a straight run from prompt side - it makes for a nice clean entrance through the gap rather than doubling back to get through. I realise this may not work for all set ups but feel free to change my mind.
  9. Sweetie wrappers from Quality Street as gels? Although the chances of having any left this long after Christmas is slim...
  10. Thanks for your help. A single logo or gobo is not going to work with what we are planning on doing this time around.
  11. Does anybody know which font is used for the #wemakeevents logo please?
  12. We had a family trip to Regents Park at the weekend to see "Jesus Christ Superstar" for my wife's birthday. On the whole we were impressed with the way they handled the social distancing with every other row left empty and the seats in the gaps were strapped closed (to the annoyance of some families who had two blocks of two and wanted to sit closer together). It is difficult to insist that masks should be worn in the auditorium when people are taking their drinks in with them. Of course all the social distancing went out the window as everyone rushed to the exit having removed their masks after 90 minutes of the show. we were expecting it to much more of a concert style performance but it was a full blown all singing all dancing production. We noticed that nobody shared mics and that any props were handled differently if more than one person used them - for example Judas's box of silver was carried on using its handles and left open. Judas then kicked it shut and it was taken off by picking it up from the bottom. The 39 lashes sequence was innovative but lacked something by having Jesus restrained by a very long mic cable instead of being more physically restrained. I did have to stifle a laugh when I realised why one of the mic stands had been knocked over and abandoned downstage and everyone had to step around it (until somebody gave it a little nudge with their foot to get it into the right position). It was great to get back and see live theatre despite all the problems flung up by the social distancing. Well done everyone involved at Regents Park. Shame about all the numpties on public transport . . .
  13. Not in the Midlands but Flints have them in their hire catalogue.
