  1. Here is a video of an excerpt of the exhibit I found on youtube,
  2. Is this the one in York? I went to it in August and really enjoyed it! Very well projection mapped in 360 and it all ran very smoothly. I would have still gone for that had the other parts of the exhibition not been there as I didn't really find myself drawn to those bits. I'd also love to know more on the software side of things. Got quite a few pictures and videos should anyone like to see them.
  3. I wouldn't bother with the Facom sets nowadays. I used to work for a trade supplier of Facom and Britool products, and they are now owned by Stanley Black & Decker. One major issue is you can't get stock of any of the Britool / Facom gear easily if its not currently in stock as it comes from France as there is no UK distribution any more, but the biggest issue is the warranty support is really poor now. We found that anything impact, ratchet or with component parts, they would just refuse to warranty most of the time and just put it down to "tool abuse".
  4. Another vote from me for JLC PCB. Thanks to guru Clive for the initial recommendation! I got mine done approx November with very little delay.
  5. Colin has it on the money. It is the one at Bassenthwaite Station. Here is a video of the installation for those wanting an idea of whats occuring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAQ7cEMVmPc Kerry, I wasn't suggesting real steam, more how to imitate it safely over the course of a day, with certain effects for special occasions or timed segments. This is more leaning towards "theme park" & installation rather than sorter duration shows, as this will be a cafe open to the public throughout the day. (Approx 20 tables inside the station, 20 tables on the train I think.) Essentially we've covered all the lighting on the train and changed it across to LED whilst maintaining the original orient express film vibe. We're wanting to add a bit more theatre for the daytime where lighting on the train is ineffective. I've been directly out of industry for a couple of years so not really sure what equipment suppliers are out there that are reliable these days, both in machines and aftersales.
  6. Hi all As some have may seen on my recent topic I’m currently working on a project involving the original Murder on the Orient Express 2017 film set. The client would like to have the ability to simulate the train “at rest” in the station where it is located. I have suggested we need to look at two machines primarily. The first unit will be located under the main stack & pressure release unit to handle “blasts” vertically, with a second unit lower under the train piped into the steam overflow pipes. I’m open to any advice on suggestions as to best current suppliers of equipment as many local companies don’t have any machines to hire to do some testing with unfortunately. EDIT2ADD: We have 1ph power on the loco, located both in the boiler around in the cab / coal bunker area, I suspect on a 20 or 30A feed from the main train distro so power, whilst limited isn’t an issue inherently. Control will be wired for remote and timer, potentially some form of show control for evening events. Thanks in advance. Duncan.
  7. Interesting. I made a call to them on Friday last week, and they said it was all change on Monday 1st Feb and they would be able to supply me direct, rather than through a distributor. They also said they had moved to new premises etc. I hadn't realised this was why.
  8. https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/18134093.orient-express-train-become-new-cafe-lake-district/ It's located at the North West end of Bassenthwaite, on the A66 heading from Keswick towards Cockermouth.
  9. I contacted BGI Supplies who fabricated some parts of the train, however they haven't responded to emails or phonecalls unfortunately.
  10. Hi All Had an interesting job coming up today. A customer of mine has contacted me about modifying the lighting on the original set piece steam train used in the film Murder on the Orient Express (2017) so that it can be used on a more permanent basis as part of a visitor centre / cafe style business. Currently the two smaller headlights on the front of the loco are using CP62 lamps which I'm proposing to replace with a similarly fresnelled 7" oscar cibie style headlight to run a 12V LED unit in, however the main light in the end of the boiler tube (approx 15" in diameter" is completely missing. I'm wondering if something Arri TV light esque would be suitable. My customers are keen to modify the original carriage lamps from a T18 500w lamp to something more palatable like an SES based LED, so I'm looking to source some decent dimmable LED replacements that will give off a similar colour temperature. I'll take anyones thoughts / opinions gladly. Does anyone have any knowledge or contacts for the original set builders or electricians, just to further my curiousity? many thanks in advance Duncan
  11. My workplace buys a lot of products of a wholesaler called Wilkinson Star. They are now massively pushing a Viro-Tech product which I believe is based on Ozone. From what I've watched of Clive's videos on the subject of UV and ozone tubes etc, I've definitely raised a few eyebrows at this until otherwise told by people like Clive that it isn't completely crazy. https://www.viro-tech.info/
  12. I had thought about that. I can just put my own 12 way Deutsch DT connector or similar on it, however 1) I don't really want to butcher the factory harness if at all possible and 2) its a pig to get to at the best of times, let alone to solder there. Trying the coke route at the minute which seems to be working. If it solders OK I'll run some current tests through it and see how it reacts.
  13. This particular plug is the first multipin connector up the cable from the 7 pin towing socket so natural moisture etc has worked its way up the harness from the screw terminals in the back of the 7 pin plug. Going to try and source some spirit vinegar as I've realised that plain old household malt vinegar doesn't have a high enough acid content supposedly.
  14. It's a 2008 Defender 110. The Sumitomo part number for the housing is 6195-0173 but I certainly can't find a supplier. A few places carry the vehicle loom half but not the male. I was tempted to try the vinegar trick. Might definitely give it a go now!
  15. Hi All This is completely unrelated to Theatre and Events, and is in fact on an Automotive application, but I figured that if I put my other hat on and asked here, my question would be easily answered! I'm dealing with a few cables 1 or 2mm2 going into an unobtainable Sumitomo plug that have been corroded right the way up the loom (and at least to within the last 100mm of it). I need to reterminate these cables as I'm unable to replace or unpin the loom, and the components are like rocking horse poop. Can people suggest a good method for cleaning off the oxidisation / corrosion of the copper so I can solder the joint? I don't have any flux, which I heard may do the trick, so if people reccomend a particular one, I'd be glad of a pointer. thanks in advance Duncan
