Could you elaborate on this a little? What peaks? Is it the radio mic system (generally indicated by a peak light on the receiver) or is the desk?

Does the signal go into the red on the Beyer receiver as well as the desk? I'm not too familiar with this receiver, as far as I can tell it doesn't have a headphone output, but if it does try plugging your headphones into that and see if it distorts there?

If not, here's what I would try, in this order...

  1. Ensure channel input on the desk is set to line level rather than mic level (and gain all the way down)
  2. Test with a different channel on the desk
  3. Attenuate the output from the receiver (if possible)
  4. If not possible, try attenuating between the receiver and mixing desk with an in-line attenuator or DI box
