Showtec Dimmer

Does anybody have experience of replacing the microprocessor in Showtec Multidims? I've got one with a broken pin and the three different processors which I have tried all give different results when inserted. I know that the dimmer is OK because the broken pin does make contact with the IC holder but obviously could go intermittent at any time. Do the microprocessors have to be programmed? In this case does anybody know who in the UK can do it?

If the existing micro still works I would suggest trying to repair it, as getting a replacement will be difficult or impossible - they do have to be programmed but you will not be able to get the programming file for copyright reasons. Buying a replacement micro as a spare would be the only option, I don't know how good Showtec's spares operation is.

If you push a resistor leg into the IC socket you should be able to solder it onto the remains of the broken pin where it comes out of the chip.

If you are poking around at MultiDims, remember that the fuseholders are live, even when the mains switch on the unit is off. The only way to guarantee that they are safe is to unplug from the mains entirely.

Nice!

At least it is not like the old Pulsar Zero4000 where the entire thing was live including the 5V logic.
