NADAV
Hi all I have just been asked to go on tour with a band to kenya. Can anyone help me out with standards of gear, reputable companies etc?? All the venues are stadium gigs so need as good a rack of gear as I can get. If anyone knows of D and B or logic stockists, likewise with Midas stockists across there, please pipe up. Cheers
matt_h
I grew up in Kenya, and I can say with reasonable certainty that the sort of hire company you are looking for doesn't exist out there. There is little to no market for that kind of kit, most events will be covered by "home-made" cabinets, any of the bars and clubs with installed PA would have imported cabinets (and possibly the expertise) especially for the job themselves. That said quite a few of my friends pop up in pictures on facebook at events hosted by 6:AM entertainment. Who appear to be a DJ outfit with a bit of kit. Some of the images of their roof structure make me want to weep though! However they may be able to point you in a more suitable direction in country. Otherwise I suspect its time to talk to people here or in South Africa (who don't mind their kit going abroad) and a shipping agent!
Jivemaster
I'd also ask advice from the FCO maybe their website will have some guidance. Also have a look at the Kenyan diplomatic representation and their www for advice on carnets visas and lots of other things. Check personal vaccinations fo all concerned. kerry davies
We did this not long back and there is a company in Mozambique that I seem to recall being mentioned. Kenya had lots of wedding disco sized kit and the so-called "stadia" were a bit iffy from pics posted. SA obviously is the best bet but speccing specific brands could be difficult to achieve. Northern Kenya is more or less a no-go zone as far as UK visitors are concerned because of Al Shabbab and pirates diversifying like a good un. Not to put too much of a downer on it all BUT.....US State Department warning.
BlueShift
There is a Kenyan company with a bunch of C4 and some Yamaha M7s. I have used them before. Great stuff by african standards. I will try and dig up the company name and report back...

ramdram
Nadav, put more simply, you are too young to die. Your best bet is to google up any sort of HMG's "Advice to Travellers", as mentioned above...read it all thoroughly. Take advice on travel insurance, to the exact places in Kenya...if anyone apart from HMG knows about travel risks it will be the insurance industry. kerry davies
Sorry, Chris but the latest from the FO is;Large public gatherings and demonstrations occur from time to time in Kenya and these should be avoided. They are basically saying, "Don't do a stadium tour!" Some further concerns are the deaths from hand grenade attacks on 10th March in the capital and attacks on 31st March on bars/nightclubs in Mombasa. It continues. The only thing worse that could happen was if Bono were to visit, look at Somalia. He was in Timbuktu in January for the Tuareg festival and now the Tuaregs are besieging the city. LXbydesign
Much as though I hate turning work down, in this instance I think I'd be saying a polite 'no thanks'.
