Shermann Audio - Blue Rig

Hi,

Has anyone on here had any experience with the Shermann Audio Blue Rig :-

Shermann Audio use high quality drivers and amp modules in their systems and their price seems very reasonable. They claim their specs aren't exaggerated like many consumer ranges.

I currently use a pair of Yamaha DXR15's over a pair of EV ELX118p subs which has been an excellent system for the money but ideally I'd love something smaller and lighter. The DXR15's are great speakers within their price range but are quite large and heavier than I'd like. The EV ELX118p's are decent sounding subs but don't have quite reserved output.

I will be using the system for live bands in rooms of around 200/250 people. I have been running V-Drums, bass, keys, guitar, sax, trumpet and 4 vocals through my current DXR15/EV ELX118p system successfully apart from the EV subs go into limiting on the largest gigs. When there is an acoustic kit I mic kick drum, snare and toms.

Does anyone know how well the Shermann Audio Blue Rig would cope with my requirements? Would there be a loss in output? Would this system be able to cope with live bands in a dead sounding marquee of 200 people?

I'm a long time Shermann user and they are highly regarded. The Blue Rig is capable of 131dB @ 1 metre so should cope with a live band for 200 punters I would imagine. I've got a couple of his systems, one being similarish to the Blue Rig. It consists of two 15" powered subs and two 10" passive mid/tops driven by the sub amp (Powersoft 4 x 350 watt channel module, bridged to give 2 x 700 watts into 8 Ohm). I wouldn't hesitate to use my system in a marquee for 200 punters. Obviously you won't get chest thumping bass and ear bleeding highs but his systems are very musical and natural sounding, loud hifi is how I describe them. Give Ken Hughes who designs them in Newtown a call, he's very affable. He may have one there for you to listen to as well.

Thanks for the reply. Ideally I don't want to lose output or depth of sound/punch from what I'm already getting from my DXR15's and EV ELX118p's. Saying that, the ELX118p's are known for not having high output or chest thumping punch. If the Blue Rig will handle bass guitar + miked drums at least as well as my current rig that would be great. If it would out perform it then it would be a no brainier for me!

I'm torn between changing my rig for something completely different or just change my subs as I'm nervous about losing output with smaller speakers!
