  1. I would assume that A001 is indeed address. Have you got them set to slave mode at the same time? If you set one to slave and A001, leave them on the A001 part of the menu and connect one to a simple DMX desk (with nothing else connected) can you try various combinations of the first 6 channels to see if they are some variant on RBG + Dimmer (or Dimmer + RBG). It is quite possible that channel 5 could be some form of control or strobe channel so vary that as well. Another thing to try would be a polarity reversed DMX cable, it's not unheard of for unbranded fixtures to have the + and - swapped round. If you are happy with a soldering iron it is fairly simple to modify and existing DMX cable to act as a polarity swap - just make sure to label it to avoid confusion in the future. Just a few thoughts to try.

Hello, To the best of my knowledge it is. The committee are usually fairly proactive. Try emailing Paul Durose using his email on the contact page: http://www.stsg.org.uk/contacts.php If you don't hear anything back, let me know and I will message him. Michael (long standing STSG Member, but not committee)
  3. Delicolor, I look forward to hearing the results. I did ask CPC if they had any more detailed tech specs but sadly nothing.
  4. We are considering upgrading the lighting in our studio from an elderly selection of 500W-650W fresnels (most Patt 803) and wanted to seek the wisdom of others who may have already made a similar switch. Our budget is not enormous, up to around £250 per light at a push. I want to go for RBGW to reduce the number of fixtures in the rig and also retire my elderly LED pars in the same space. I know the Elumin8 MP75 has been around for a while, anyone got any first hand experience of them in the wild? I have also seen that CPC have a Pulse offering: https://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/mfz160q/fresnel-stage-light-4x40w-rgbw/dp/DP36126?MER=sy-me-pd-mi-alte which claims a higher lux and also has a better beam angle range for our small studio. Has anyone tried one of these? Does anyone have any other recommendations for small, cheap but consistent RGBW LED fresnels? Thanks in advance all.
  5. IIRC Lightfactory was designed for PC and then has wings added later I believe. I had it at my old job back when it was sold as a Zero88 product.
  6. We recently bought some new lights which helpfully have powercon in and though connections. We haven't previously had much powercon equipment so have not got much cabling for it. I am looking to buy some combined powercon male-female and DMX leads to keep the cabling tidy but the cost is making my budget twitchy. One of our suppliers lists Adam Hall Twist Power cables which look to be powercon clones without ever actually referring to powercon. Has anyone got any experience with non-Neutrik powercon equivalents? The saving is not huge, £5ish per lead, but it does add up to quite a lot for the quantity I'm looking at. Equally, are there any good, affordable suppliers of powercon that anyone would recommend? We're a fairly low usage, low wear and tear place so they durability doesn't need to be tour grade but equally don't want to have to be continually repairing/replacing them. What is the general feeling on this? Thanks
  7. I can't comment on the UHF systems but I have a rack of Line 6 mics. What sort of antenna's are you using? The little sticks that come with the mics? I have a pair of P180 antenna (link) which have an adjustable gain to allow for longer cable lengths and are more directional. I have them mounted above the front of the audience and never seem to have any signal issues, even reaching backstage normally. If you are only using the ones provided with the receivers you will find they don't have the gain to cope with long cables. Either move the whole rack nearer stage or invest in some better aerials. The only other comment I would have is that I remember reading that 2" metal tube (i.e. scaffold and lighting rigs) are a bit of a problem for interference for 2.4GHz, it might be that by mounting them in the lighting rig you are increasing problems caused by that. Hope that helps Michael
  8. A good starting point would be LXFree. It's not an all singing, all dancing 3D CAD program, but it is free and can produce simple 2D plots with clearly different lantern symbols and a key. It can be found here: https://www.claudeheintzdesign.com/lx/index.html
  9. I had a demo last week from AC of a few of their offerings in that sort of price range: Two of the Prolights Lumipar range, which were punchy for their size but the changing of lens to change beam angle was a complicated process (45 minutes per light). Multisource rather than COB meant fuzzy shadows which may or may not be an issue (no colour fringing though) The Chroma-Q Color One 100X was frankly a little disappointing, nowhere near as bright as the other options, particularly with the 'lens' kit which consisted of basically some frost gel. I guess you are paying slightly for the brand name. It may have been just the demo one but the barndoors where stiff to fit, rotate and remove which would be frustrating if a regular problem. The rep assured me, he'd never seen that before. The most interesting comparison was between the Prolights StudioCOB and the StudioCOBplus. The Plus is RGBW where the COB is only RGB but as the chips are both 150W it actually makes the COB brighter in saturated colours. The plus was better at pastels as you would expect but the COB was pretty decent . The Plus had the benefit of IP65 rating and TrueCON but neither of those is particularly relevant to me. Both have optional barndoors as well which, whlie not as effective as on a fresnel, would allow you to tidy up spill. Overall I was most impressed with the COB, not needing the IP rating means the Plus is just more expensive for very little benefit. Give the guys at AC a ring, they are normally very happy to come and do on site demos. It was really useful seeing them in my space and being able to directly compare them with the elderly pars I'm trying to replace. As you are based in Bristol, I'm sure Stage Electrics will happily come demo things too, but they've struggled to find anything that fits my brief in that price range (adjustable beam angle is a must for me). Hope that helps. Michael
