Gohanto
Not strictly a "theatre" question but thought people here may know, is it common to have fixed rigging points for chain hoists hidden above ballroom ceiling light cans? (i.e. Push the light fixture up and out of the way, and there's a loaded rated hook hanging down from structure hidden just above it). I've seen rigging points above ceiling access panels before, but nothing like having to remove light fixtures from a ceiling so curious if anyone has seen that before or how well it works? (Guessing you just need to turn the lights off before grabbing the light?)
Stuart91
What's the venue in question? Chances are someone on here will have worked in there at some point. I must confess I'd be a little dubious of points that were "hidden away" like that. More from the point of view of them being left forgotten and uninspected for many years, rather than anything inherently wrong with the method itself. Jivemaster
If the venue can give you a recent certificate of test and Safe working load, the the point is usable. No certificate the it's just a dangly bit of ceiling.

obaka-san
Carefully inspect those points and make your own mind up. I've just opened Dubai opera (house) which is also owned and built by EHG who own armani, standards aren't what you or I expect. Also I've never seen points above a lamp, ceiling panel yes. They get pretty creative 'problem solving' over there

Haven't had a chance to be inside yet, I think it was one of the larger theatre consultants that did most of the design so I'd hope it worked out ok. obaka-san
Design is great, execution is typical with what you've probably seen in the region. Things were running way behind for opening (typical everywhere) and I imagine things have been cleaned up but working on stage multiple issues are now part of the fabric of the building. That's in this guys opinion anyhow.
