Just Some Bloke
I thought it was a play not a musical?
gareth
Originally it was a play (for TV, rather than the stage), but was developed for the stage into what might be best described as 'a play with songs', I think, rather than a musical in the usual sense. LXbydesign
Its a play - with music. There are songs as such , but due to the style of the show, these can be sung by the kids without any need for musical backing or elaborate band set-up. Ive done it twice now. The first time, just an accoustic guitar was used and the second time, no backing at all. Its a case of you can make it as easy or complicated as you like. As far as I know, there is no musical score.

The Methuan Paperback copy of the script has the score at the back
TheParanoidAndroid
Willy Russell has recently been updating the script and a 6 week run was performed at The Royal Court Theatre Liverpool . The show was billed as Our Day Out The Musical and includes some new songs. Have a look at their Youtube channel for clips Royal Court Youtube . The show was a great success and is as relevant today as when Willy Russell first wrote it.

LXbydesign
Im going to be doing it again soon and we will be having a 5 piece band along with extra orchestrations and some BV's on the hardrive (running from Logic on a MAC and also sending out timecode to the lighting desk to run Q's and trigger the media server for the video / stills backdrop. The set up we are using is going to be a bit OTT for the show itself, but we (the creative / technical team) are using the production as a bit of a try-out before a bigger project later on in the year. The staging will be quite simple, mostly in white - to allow for the media to do the work. Im just deciding where to put the band at the moment! . . . . . Ah ok - thanks for those words of wisdom!! I shall converse with the audio guy. Its his ball on that side of it. All I want from him are the MIDI signals!!! He's been using Logic V8 with no problems though.
TomHoward
How does he cue it, by playing and pausing? We use QLab through and through for that stuff, and with it being a list there's no margin for error, and it's much easier to recover from a problem with - a mis-fired cue etc.
LXbydesign
We just have a playlist loaded up. Start each song and let it run through. At the end, it stops and Q's up for the next one and so on. The last show we used it on was a dance show. This was very straight forward of course as all the track was prerecorded and loaded into logic. We then just ran a couple of seconds of lead in before the start of the audio so that the time code and lx board were sync'ed properly when the track began. I think the live show will work ok. The lx board will have a moment to sync properly as the MD gets the intro 4 beats from the click.
