paulears
Got one of the usual emails from paypal - but it's actually an important one. soon, PayPal and eBay will no longer be part of the same group of companies and will operate as unrelated organisations. So we're updating PayPal’s User Agreement, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy to continue providing the same great services you’re used to. We’re also making other changes to our business practices and policies that aren’t related to the separation. We’ve put details of the changes on our Policy Update page. So ebay and paypal are splitting? I wonder if it's because you can now use paypal on ebays competitors, like amazon? Maybe paypal will no longer automatically go with the seller? hmmmmmm
Judge
They always used to be separate companies, then Paypal were bought by Ebay - which was a sound move because it meant that they got paid twice for every transaction - once for the standard sale cost and then again for the money charge. Nice work if you can get it. No idea why they would want to get off that particular gravy train.
Stuart91
It'll be interesting to see how the dispute resolution process changes. At the moment it seems all to easy for buyers to launch spurious complaints, and the full balance of the transaction is removed from the seller's PayPal account. Andrew Edwards
They should continue that escrow agreement as ebay will still likely trigger the transaction just like any other payment method. I doubt it will go back to the total divorced scenario of the early days. Who knows why they want to spin it off. The last person to sell paypal used the money to start making rockets and electric cars. ;) Although they are splitting the companies, it may mean that ebay are still the majority shareholder instead of the current wholly owned subsidiary. kitlane
The split was announced in September. Basically, it makes a lot of commercial sense for both companies. BBC News Torygraph article
