  1. They look brilliant, I must remember them!
  2. Daft question, could you not just put two car/lead acid batteries in series to give you the 24v needed? Perhaps two sealed lead batteries in a large deep cycle battery box would work. There are off the shelf options like this, however they might be a good deal bigger than what you are looking for. Alternatively any set that runs on 4 x AA batteries could be used by using a step down converter, it would allow you to run the existing sets, though you do note that they are rather dim. If you are willing to buy direct from China (and believe their marketing), it is possible to get 12v sets (link), though time might be the issue for this year. Just a few thoughts!
  3. Junior8 is right that usage that incurs higher costs should be charged out at a higher rate. Whilst it may be hard to convince management teams/directors of this, the incandescent lamp ban (I know there are exemptions, but by now every performance space should have long term plans to replace incandescent equipment) and now the halogen lamp ban means that legacy systems have to be replaced. It sounds like you/the venue are thinking along the right lines for your house lighting. One of the best LED systems (with true fade to black) is GDS houselights, though quite possibly outside of your budget. An alternative might be (as suggested) dimmable LED lamps but with a suitable dimmer. The sunDial quad from Artistic Licence is probably just the dimmer that you are looking for. They have custom dimming profiles available for a number of lamps and from the demos that I have seen it appears to be pretty good. Link here. Wayne at Artistic Licence is very helpful and may be able to do a demo. Failing that Stage Electrics retail them and have previously demonstrated them at PLASA and may be able to do something. I have no connection to Artistic Licence or Stage Electrics, I have just seen the product. I would be interested to hear from anyone that has used the sunDial quad long term to see what they think of it over a longer period.
  4. Tomo is quite right that using drop in dimmable LED lamps and a dimmer almost always gives unsatisfactory results. That said, the SunDial Quad from Artistic Licence was developed for just this application. I have not had any hands on experience with one (apart from seeing it on a demo), but they appear quite reasonable. There is a table of fixture profiles on the website, perhaps you could look to see if your lamps are listed. Failing that they may be able to provide further advice/combinations of dimmer and lamps that work well. Further details can be found at: https://artisticlicence.com/product/sundial-quad/ (I have no affiliation with the company or product, just took note when I saw a demo!
  5. We have been looking at Stage Ten to do something similar (should we cancel an event of ours later in the year). Whilst I haven't been through the ins and outs of it, it looks promising. From what I understand it aggregates feeds from multiple sources (I. E. Your artists) and then presents them so you can mix them in a virtual vision mixer before pumping them out live to your service of choice (Facebook, YouTube, etc.). I've not had any hands on experience with it yet, but would be I terested on any feedback if you beat me to it! https://stageten.tv/
  6. Have you tried emailing limitear directly? https://www.limitear.com/products/adaptear/ If not it is still listed on HHBs website: https://www.hhb.co.uk/product/limit-ear-adaptear/2744/ Not personally tried them, but it does sound like it would do what you want!
  7. Artistic licence make the DMX clarify (link here), which (among other things) will filter out RDM. A device such as this could be placed between the DA and the first fixture in the chain. Not as elegant as having a DA that will strip out the RDM as part of the process, but can easily be retrofitted into existing systems. I haven't used it to strip out RDM, but have used it to solve issues with a non compliant device that wouldn't work without receiving the full 512 channels.
