timsabre
Someone sent me a link to the gigapixel photo of the US inauguration ceremony - there's a bit of fun to be had spotting the tech setup there. http://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2017/01/politics/trump-inauguration-gigapixel/ Main front of house tent appears to be in a cheap garden gazebo that would blow away at the first gust of wind...http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk/downloads/i1.jpg There's a massive ugly camera tower right in the middle of the whole thing...http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk/downloads/i2.jpg And what are these things? Maybe parabolic mics, but what is the copper spiral for?http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk/downloads/i3.jpg
mac.calder
And what are these things? Maybe parabolic mics, but what is the copper spiral for?http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk/downloads/i3.jpg It's a UHF antenna - It looks like a PWS S8089 Helical antenna. Basically unlike "traditional" antennas a Helical does not suffer from polarisation issues as it is 360deg polarised. It is a fairly directional antenna. Simon Lewis
is quite informative.... I was slightly surprised at the use of PM5Ds though!
Peter F
I was slightly surprised at the use of PM5Ds though! Tried and tested, the last thing you want is your shiny new, all singing, all dancing DigiCraft Pro GT 3000 having a hissy fit. PM5D might not be the trendiest of desks nowadays but it's pretty rock solid. Cheers, Peter
Jivemaster
I think the idea is based on boringly known rock solid performance with duplicates and triplicates, rather than anything flashy. There's every chance that the crew vetting and kit checking takes a long while too.
the kid
IIR someone on here has a story of doing a POTUS job and all the fun around it. I did a thing with "just call me Dave" honestly the security was not all that much until 10 mins before he arrived when lots of well padded people turned up, who then left again when he did. I would have thought they would be tougher but apparently not that much. This was 5?6? years ago so things have changed a bit.
Bryson
I lit a talk once where the PM of Canada (Stephen Harper at the time) was talking. About 5 minutes before it started, some guy in a suit brought a chair up to the booth and sat right next to me. It turned out he was from CSIS (Kind of like MI5, but Canadian) and he liked to sit in the booth so he could see the crowd better. He was a nice guy actually. Said being on protection detail for the Canadian PM was pretty boring as nothing bad ever happened.
sandall
I did a thing with "just call me Dave" honestly the security was not all that much The only time I've found "security" a problem was for Air-miles Andy (both working & guesting), but I suspect that was more due to over-zealous "hosts" than anything else. I did both Dave & Boris a while ago & security for both was minimal to say the least. Ditto for Prince Edward a few weeks ago, & the only problem with HM & the Duke (apart from a major organisers' foul-up) was keeping the sniffer dogs away from my lunch (though no doubt there was a certain amount of vetting behind the scenes).
