  1. As @kerry davies said - it should really be in your risk assessment. H&S law these days is not often very specific or prescriptive and relies on risk assessments in many areas, which can make it hard to point to specifics in 'regulation x of law y'. The hotel should have a fire risk assessment, which may or may not consider the elements of brought-in drapes. You could ask them, but either way round if you are working the conference and providing drapes on anything other than a supply-only basis then you should have your own RA, and if you don't include fire considerations for that then it may not be deemed 'suitable and sufficient'. Find another vendor who does understand and can meet your needs.
  2. It detected it and displayed it as a device. @gafferted tried this out briefly when I wasn't there. He didn't get as far as actually getting it to drive the LED tape but I think that may have been an Art-Net universe numbering issue and time hasn't permitted us to re-visit it yet. Interesting that Chamsys saw it and FLX didn't though.
  3. Well interestingly a Chamsys instance running on a laptop DID recognise the driver as an Art-Net node, but the FLX didn't. Will investigate some more if I get some time.
  4. Thanks @Edward- Z88. That's probably it. It's quite likely that the LED control software on a PC may use broadcast, although some element of polling-based detection is evident in some of the software. If the box isn't responding to an ArtPoll then I guess the FLX won't 'see' it as a device? I'm getting another 4-universe Art-Net node to try and I can then use DMX-WS2811 drivers to control the LED tapes.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I can see the FLX in DMX workshop, and it works fine with our EtherN.8 node that we use for the house rig. I can patch any desk universe (which does start at 1) to any Art-Net universe (patchable from 0 upwards). Have tried changing the universe numbers around a bit (including the +/-1 offset to no avail). From some of the other LED software configs the H802RA definitely supports multiple configurable Art-Net universes. I can set this on the control software for the H802RA and I can see these settings retained on a re-boot. It picked up a DHCP address from out of the box. I can ping it, and I can assign another IP address through the control software that does detect the box - it's responding to some form of broadcast polling - but perhaps as @Tomo said not the Art-Poll. Some of the other LED software does seem to 'find' it if the documentation is to be believed.... I'll see if I can set the FLX to broadcast and try that. I have dabbled with WireShark in the past - what would you be looking for in this scenario? Thanks
  6. Has anyone had any experience of making an H802RA (Link) LED pixel controller work in an Art-Net environment with a lighting desk (preferably an FLX)? Trying to work through various incarnations of Chinglish 'manuals' and YouTube videos hasn't got me anywhere yet! I am trying to drive some WS2811 addressable LED tape via Art-Net from a Zero88 FLX. I have a DMX-WS2811 controller and I have had that hooked up and working fine, so I know the tape is good and the fixture setup in the FLX is good, but I need 4 universes so Art-Net to a single box with 4 tape driver outputs would be neater. I can make it work with a separate node and 4 driver boxes but I'd prefer the neater solution. I can see the H802RA in the LEDStudio software, and I can see the DHCP address (in the right range for the ) that it has picked up. I can also set the chip type and Art-Net universe number etc. in the software and I can see that it is saving that information. I have patched the correct desk universe on the FLX to the Art-Net universe I want to use, with the desk Art-Net IP address in the same range as the H802RA, but in DMX Workshop I can't see the H802RA as an Art-Net node, even though I can ping it. All the example videos seem to show use of this device with LED software on a PC, rather than control from a desk - but in theory if it's an Art-Net to pixel tape driver it should be able to pick up the Art-Net from the desk. It is however refusing to work. If anyone has any experience with these controllers working directly from a desk using Art-Net then I'd be very grateful! I have seen one comment online that it may not actually accept an Art-Net input but the product information seems to suggest that it does. Thanks in advance.
  7. In my professional role (rather than the outside-of-work activities that get me closer to pushing the buttons!) we are seeking two individuals for opportunities in our stage and performance technology division. The roles are for a project engineer (£37-45k) and a technical manager (£45-55k) - salaries dependent on experience. The work is varied and will involve variously management, design, commissioning and troubleshooting of lighting, performance sound, paging systems, cue lights/SM systems, comms systems, networks and associated infrastructure on projects ranging from schools and small regional theatres up to new builds or major refurbishment of large venues. Our stage business is based in Greater Manchester (Shaw) but we have a satellite office in Bicester and other group business offices in London. Remote/flexible home working is also supported. The roles would suit people with a background in live performance work (including technical production management) who may now prefer to work daytime hours and not show-schedule hours. They are also suitable for people in installation companies looking to progress. If you are interested and wish to see the full job descriptions then please send me a PM via the Blue Room with your contact details and a brief background statement and why you are interested and I'll send the details over to you.
  8. I'm working my way round various suppliers of these over the years. I have used the Micronic ones referred to above and they are OK but the cable clip mounts for the wire and securing the boom to the headset come off and get lost very easily (usually end up getting replaced with tape although it is just about possible to get a Hellerman sleeve onto the headset to secure the boom connector with some determination and a sleeve stretcher). They also aren't very size-adjustable and I'm not convinced on the sound quality but they are reasonable value. I don't generally have issue with the detatchable cable connector. I am now trialling some headsets from Ultra Light and Sound (linky) - they have a metal fitment for the boom and seem quite robust. Still need to get a final view on sound quality though.
  9. Thanks Peter - Have dropped them a message.
  10. Good find - Thanks Peter. Liverpool is a bit of a roadtrip for me but I'll definitely think about it.
  11. Does anyone know anywhere that offers hands-on Digico SD Series training? I have a show in November that will be on an SD10 and whilst I have used other digital desks I haven't used Digico stuff before. I can do the online videos and have a go with the offline editor but I always find a bit of hands-on better. I can't find anything listed by Digico, SSE/Solotech/Wigwam, Stage Electrics or Autograph. Sadly I didn't make it to PLASA this year to ask them directly. @Big Dave do you know how I might be able to get some hands-on fairly quickly? Thanks in advance. Jason.
  12. Thanks Cedd. Are they the Ni-MH batteries then? Sounds like they may be worth a try. @DavePallant - I can charge for the batteries - this is more perhaps trying to improve my environmental footprint. On the basis of your numbers if you charged the same amount for hire as for sale of the batteries you would have your money back in 10 show weeks, which isn't too bad a return period. @J Pearce - The Fischer stuff looks great - I have seen this at another Theatre but may be a little on the toppy side price-wise for us. Will think about it for sure though. Thanks all for the input.
  13. Show use is fairly sporadic - it goes in fits and starts. I have a run of 3 shows in 6 weeks coming up but they they will likely be back in their box again until a 2 week run in January, then back in their box until March. We're a bit better than 2 per year but definitely not every other week, so yes - good point about the usage. The CPC product has a discharge cycle button that helps with cycling batteries that have been in long term storage - no idea how well this work though!
  14. I did search on here but didn't see anything relevant and reasonably recent. I'd like to find a reasonably priced set of rechargeable AA batteries and chargers for use in Trantec S5.3 and Sennheiser beltpacks to reduce the recycling load on using disposable batteries that we get through quite fast in show weeks. CPC do these. Does anyone have any experience with them, or can you recommend another solution and supplier that has worked. I know there are some potential issues with slightly lower voltages and battery indications etc. but any experience-based advice on something that works would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.
  15. Thanks for the advice @J Pearce. The Axient packs are a good shout - hopefully I can find some to hire and the budget will stretch that far! Bra-mounts might work for the Angels - possibly they don't strip those bits off so much in the costume changes. I think they are likely to be more 'big hair' given the nature of those characters in the show.
