oakeedokee
Been looking for a new switcher for our auditorium and was pointed in the direction of this:https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudiohdI find it incredible that all this is available for less than £1000, in fact I've seen it advertised for £690 +VAT!Has anyone got anything negative to say about it? There must be a catch somewhere.
Dave m
They did have a reputation for falling over and being picky about camera types with the earlier versionsBut I used one back in November and it was greatI normally use a Panasonic avs 400 connected to a hyperdeck studio

LX-Dave
Assuming it is the same as the rest of the ATEM range, the main catch is that it has a global frame-store across all inputs, which means there will be 1 frame of delay which could cause lip-sync issues if you're putting cameras live to screens and there is other delay in your video system. Other than that they're amazing for the money with lots of useful features.

It has been rock solid reliable too.As others have said they are a great bit of kit for the money - the main catch is that all your inputs must exactly match the resolution setting on the mixer, or you don't get a picture. This is OK with cameras as you can set them up once and leave them, but if you have a random selection of laptops getting plugged in it can be a bit of a pain - there are cheap scaler boxes on amazon which will help you out here. sleepytom
The ATEM framesync delay is much over hyped and misunderstood. Non referenced inputs will have up to 1 frame of delay - this is the same on all systems which allow non genlocked sources. Panasonic, Ross, Sony, Grass Vally and all other vision mixers also have this delay. If low latency is of primary importance (eg for IMAG) then you should run sync to all your cameras. Genlocked systems have virtually no delay through the switching.

Genlocked systems have virtually no delay through the switching. Can you switch out the BM input sync? I've been doing some magic shows with onstage camera and the delay in the camera and in the switcher and then in the screens means we actually don't include the magician's face in our framing because on the big LED screens it's off putting to everyone, audience and on stage! If we have obstructions on stage and a rear LED screen, I need to look at the screen to frame it properly and it's so weird when I move and the screen lags behind!
