DMX Controller

Does anyone know anything about the Showtec Showmaster 24, or the Showtec SC-24 DMX Controller?I'm wanting to run 2xGigabar systems a couple of iLights and possibly 2 x led lamps. Would these desks be up to the job?I was going to get the Behringer LC2412 but read loads of reviews and a lot say it's very complicated to use etc so I thought being a complete novice I would give it a miss.

Or is there another controller that I should be considering?

From other threads, I understand that you've got two fixtures that you need to run in 15 channel mode to get them to do what you want. You can either use 15 channels and have them do exactly the same thing (and this is where you may may have the problem with mirroring) or, you need a controller that can output to (at least) 30 DMX channels to have control of each of the 8 lamps independently.

Actually, the Behringer may be the best of those you mention, as you can map several outputs to each slider.

Thanks fot the reply, oh well Behringer it is then, I know it will probably do what I want it to, but I have read review after review about it not making any sense etc...the good thing is that Thormann offer a 3 yr warrenty with it. Would this also run the iLights and the extra two cand?

The Behringer LC2412 is actually quite a good console for it's price, but does take a bit of practice.

Before diving in, you do need to understand the difference between control channels and DMX channels. It's probably better to use a slightly different nomenclature and call the DMX addresses slots rather than channels. The Behringer LC2412 only has 24 control channels, but each channel can be assigned to up to three DMX slots.

As I understand it you want the two Giga Bars to be mirrored, so you would need to run them in 12 channel mode (that's 12 DMX slots per bar) and set the DMX address of the first one to 1 and the second one to 13. Then you need to assign the mirrored DMX slot numbers to each control channel on the LC2412, remembering that its only the sequence of the lanterns that's reversed and not the DMX slots used by each lantern. Use the table below to assign the DMX slots and then the faders on the LC2412 should produce identical but mirrored results on the two Giga Bars and you will still have 12 unused control channels and two buttons for other equipment.

Control DMX Function
channel addresses

 1 1 & 22 Red on lantern 1 bar 1 & lantern 4 bar 2
 2 2 & 23 Green on Lantern 1 bar 1 & lantern 4 bar 2
 3 3 & 24 Blue on Lantern 1 bar 1 & lantern 4 bar 2
 4 4 & 19 Red on lantern 2 bar 1 & lantern 3 bar 2
 5 5 & 20 Green on Lantern 2 bar 1 & lantern 3 bar 2
 6 6 & 21 Blue on Lantern 2 bar 1 & lantern 3 bar 2
 7 7 & 16 Red on lantern 3 bar 1 & lantern 2 bar 2
 8 8 & 17 Green on Lantern 3 bar 1 & lantern 2 bar 2
 9 9 & 18 Blue on Lantern 3 bar 1 & lantern 2 bar 2
10 10 & 13 Red on lantern 4 bar 1 & lantern 1 bar 2
11 11 & 14 Green on Lantern 4 bar 1 & lantern 1 bar 2
12 12 & 15 Blue on Lantern 4 bar 1 & lantern 1 bar 2

I hope that helps.

The LC2412 is still there and their is now an Elation desk at about £150.00 (just to say I have no connection to either seller).

I'm still waiting to be accepted, it's been more than 24 hours - so it's not looking good ?

You will get accepted and the unit has slipped quite a way down the list so its not as though their is massive interest and the Eleation unit is a bump so again not masses of interest stick with ithttp://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
