  1. I would also recommend the EXE rise hoists they are well made and designed specifically for entertainment rigging unlike most others that were simply modified to suit . They are also semi future proofed as you can add extras along the way. Its easy to add a load cell down the line if you find thats something you will need, by just changing the end cover for the load cell display unit and swapping over the motor body hook. Likewise you can fit an encoder or encoders should you find that you need positioning as they have built in the provision for that from the start. They are also FEM class 2m giving them a higher duty cycle than most other hoists out there.
  2. we find these products useful when we service flysystems https://eshop.wurth.co.uk/Product-categories/Adhesive-lubricant-HHS-Lube/31083008060305.cyid/3108.cgid/en/GB/GBP/?CampaignName=SR001&CatalogCategoryRef=31083008060305%40WuerthGroup-Wuerth-3108&SelectedFilterAttribut=%255B%255D https://eshop.wurth.co.uk/Product-categories/Wire-cable-spray/31083008060101.cyid/3108.cgid/en/GB/GBP/?CampaignName=SR001&CatalogCategoryRef=31083008060101%40WuerthGroup-Wuerth-3108&SelectedFilterAttribut=%255B%255D https://eshop.wurth.co.uk/Product-categories/Brake-cleaner/31083007070101.cyid/3108.cgid/en/GB/GBP/?CampaignName=SR001&CatalogCategoryRef=31083007070101%40WuerthGroup-Wuerth-3108&SelectedFilterAttribut=%255B%255D
  3. As others have said the speed is usually variable and has some form of artistic element to it. But to give you the speed of the winch Multiply the diameter of the drum by pi, which is approximately 3.142, This is the object's circumference. Multiply the circumference by the motors output speed (angular speed), measured in rpm. Divide this by 60 to give you the distance per second. For example if you have a 100mm drum and a shaft speed of 100rpm, then that's 0.1 X 3.142 = 0.03142 X 100/60 = 0.523m/s. If this were a real winch you would need to calculate the size of the motor to the load to be lifted, but I guess for the model you can probably get away with using what's available as the choice of smaller motors is probably going to be speed driven. It should be relatively easy to buy a variable speed control, they are available for model cars and trains.
  4. You could try expanding foam gun cleaner, but be careful, spray it onto a cloth not the case and don't use to much as it can attack some of the plastic coated ply used by some flight case manufacturers, I've found it will take of most adhesives.
  5. You could use weldmesh, this is widely available and cost effective, and wold not be too expensive to try out. https://www.sure-green.com/steel-welded-wire-panels.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw0Mb3BRCaARIsAPSNGpUFBd2kASDr2c6nFgMfQeUvgqx3p9emB9dSRvaU_vdBd0XoL7Fzr54aAgRBEALw_wcB#194=195&243=194&158=198
  6. you could try calling someone like Promptside, they are a theatre textile specialist and not a flightcase parts company that has now expanded their range to include gauses amongst other things. if you tell them what you are trying to acheive they will help you out with the right product. promptside.co.uk 01322 554455
  7. Talk to a reputable truss manufacturer, not just a distributor about you proposals, send them all the info on the LED screen including how and where you intent to use it, inside our out, and they will let you know what you need. There are many, many reported and many more unreported incidents with LED screens and the structures they are rigged from failing. Any good manufacturer will also design a bracing plan for you and let you know how much ballast you will need, and that's one of the biggest failings not enough ballast. I would be talking to Area 4 who own 5 of the major truss brands or total solution.
  8. There are going to be a number of regulatory issues with this as well, aside from DMX not being suitable for machinery control, you will need to comply with Loler and PUWER, if this is not your field of expertise, I strongly advise contacting someone who is up on all of the latest regulations.
  9. I would check with Milos but mixing truss brands is usually not recommended. it will also void any load tables and require specific engineering.
  10. if you just want to rent something then talk to Blackout or Acre Jean, its a lot more cost effective to rent if its for less than a couple of months and you will probably get a better quality product, and they will install it if needed. https://www.blackout.co.uk/ http://www.acrejean.com/
  11. As already pointed out this is just a shell company, run by someone in Dubai a few web searches give the following info. Gripton Lifting Gear LLP is an active company incorporated on 9 March 2012 with the registered office located in London, Greater London. Gripton Lifting Gear LLP has been running for 7 years. There are currently 0 active directors according to the latest confirmation statement submitted on 9th March 2019. What are your concerns about the equipment, if you are not happy about any aspect of their condition or origin then under the current legislation you have a duty of care to remove them from service until they have thoroughly inspected and tested by a suitably qualified person or organisation. Basically if you don't think they are fit for purpose don't use them, it will be your head it will come down on if there's an issue and possibly literally.
  12. I would be asking the insurance company what they will require not an internet group, even as knowledgeable as we are, ultimately it is them who will dictate if it meets their requirements and if they will pay out in the event of it all going horribly wrong, even for something minor like a bit falling of the projector and hitting one of the congregation on the back of the head, if they didn't know about it and haven't approved it they won't pay out. As others have said there are a number of regulations that this may or may not need to comply to depending on how it's to be used, and by whom, basically if it's a properly designed and engineered structure and installed in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, had a suitable signage displayed showing it's safe working loads and distribution and is periodically inspected in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines then will meet most current UK regulations. And to go back to one of the points in the original post that is not going to be a budget option or something you will find on eBay. Also consider the insurance company will probably want it inspected by one of the assessors annually at the churches expense, and that won't be as part of any regulations other than covering their arse, and the premium will probably be adjusted as well
  13. Allegedly they have had some financial issues with the European end of the business, but the USA office is fine, it has a Wearhouse full of stock and is trying to continue. They have now put up a post to that effect on their FB page. The rumour is it's likely the business will split if they can not meet the financial commitments of the European end of the business and Asia and the USA will try to continue. It will depend on who ends up with the IP and patents for the products as to how they continue. The Truss market is saturated now with the many Chinese copy brands and several new players coming in over the last couple of years one of them founded and run by ex prolyte staff, it's going to an interesting time for them if they manage to get through this.
  14. You can download a free 30 day trial version of most cad programs including AutoCAD, if you decide you want to get it laser cut.
  15. if you were to use the type 50 M12 Reutlinger it has an M12 thread on the bottom where you could bolt on an angled bracket like the one in the link to give you 2 M6 fixing holes. https://www.reutlinger.de/en/products/rigging/item/holder-type-50-sv-iii-m12 https://www.supplyforce.com/4016560/product/ifm-efector-u20301
