Zero88 chilli dimmer issue

Morning all,

At our venue we have 4 racks of chilli dimmers, 2 X 12 way and 2 x 24 way. They were only installed in 2012 and are used a moderate amount of times through out the year. We had an issue with one of the dimmers where the lad panel was not displaying properly. During the warranty period this was swapped out and put down to a faulty card.

Just this morning, 3 years later, we have noticed that the same dimmer seems to be experiencing a control unit shutdown then startup to full on around a 5 sec interval. We have tried to turning it off and back on, re plugging the DMX restarting the desk etc but with no avail.

Obviously we need to get someone out to have a look but just wanted to ask to see if anyone else has had this issue?

We used Northen Light from Scotland to do the install as we are in the north east of England. Does anyone know of any closer companies who may service or repair these dimmers?

Thanks

I've had a similar issue, twice, with a 2410 Chili, once sorted under warranty and the other out of warranty. It needed a new board / PCB kit, which I think was around £250 as a bare part. Easy to fit if you're moderately competent (though if in doubt get someone in to fit it).

Thanks for this. I have just been on the phone to one of local theatre suppliers who said they had a part we could try before we purchase. After speaking to them and looking at the dimmer innards it seems you are right. This is the only part really that would cause this issue.

I think we will be purchasing asap. We have show in two weeks http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif

You also need to get someone to check all the mains terminals on the input side of the racks are tight and that the earth's are secure.

The one issue that gets me called out to Chilli racks we didn't install tends to be loose terminals or mains earth issues - usually something inducing noise on the earth. I've had one Chilli rack killed by a Bowens studio flash unit - it was an old and badly maintained flash :P

Turns out it is was the 3 Phase Control board. One of our local suppliers had a spare to try. I swopped out the DMX board first but it kept happening, then the Control board only and it seemed fine. The dimmer now has the new control board and the original DMX board and the problem seems to be fixed. Thinking about it, the problem does seem to be a power supply issue as it is basically powering down the whole unit and restarting.

Thanks for the advice.
