Jester 24/48 - Scrollers & LED bars query

Hi all,

I have a query that maybe someone can help me with.

I work in a college and use a Jester 24/48 light board to control lights for dance performances. (I am new to this so don't get too technical on me :-) )

I run all the lights off the top row of sliders only. (For my straw wash I have 2 lights coming on from 1 slider - one light above and one light slightly in front -this times 9 so 18 lights in total for the wash)

I have several gobo's in profiles.

The first 3 sliders of the second row I use for audience lighting.

I inherited 4 scrollers that are DMX controlled. They are four profile lights with scroller units attached to the front of them. I can control them to all be the same colour or 4 separate colours.

I would like to add some front LED bars like these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Showtec-LED-Light-Bar-16/dp/B00I0LHDQU?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Can the board run these?

Can I control the colours together or separately on these?

Will my round pin power supplies plug into the front LED bars?

Does my DMX socket not already run the Scrollers - where would new lights plug into board.

PS - I've just been told that the dance teacher has ordered 2 new moving lights, Starville MH-X25. How would these work with my existing setup?

Thanks

1-Yes it can, it will use 3 sliders per unit

2-Yes you can, they can either be 3 channels R-G-B or you can split it into segments (but you won't have enough control channels to do that)

3-No, the round pin sockets are dimmed. You just want to plug them into a normal 13A socket.

4-All DMX devices have a "link through" socket which can carry on to further DMX devices.

The MH-X25 will take 6 sliders each to operate- you're going to start running out of sliders.

Those fixtures you linked to are not very good - they are not very bright and really narrow beam - not all that useful on a stage

Something like this is a lot better but they are more money

Be aware that you may not be able to take DMX directly out of your Scrollers- many have a power supply which feeds them data and power over a 4pin xlr connector rather than the 5pin xlr for DMX. (But you should be able to link DMX out of the scroller power supply and go on to your other devices)

What model Scrollers are they?

Have you considered LED pars? I know other may disagree, however cheap LED pars from the likes of CPC can be brought for as little as £35 each.

They would offer you greater flexibility for positioning and cover a small performance area with greater spread at a lower cost than the LED bars might...

We have a Jester 24/48 for students to use. We run approx 12 - 16 Pulse LED pars over 3 - 4 bars to create wash light, mixed with a number of generic Fresnels and Profiles for everything else. The desk is normally used in "run" so that the lower faders can be programmed as preset states, chases or scenes and the top row can be for individual channels to add to a scene or create new ones on the fly if needed. As long as you don't mind grouping the LED's you can actually achieve some great results from not very much. This works great for music concerts, but it may be a bit un refined for theatrical performances.

We only have a small stage and we have a smaller budget, so we can get away with it.

As for the moving heads, running them on a 24/48 will be tight... you loose 2 banks of faders per head. Im not familiar with the Starville MH-X25, but if the fixtures have a mirror option you could run them on the same address for some applications?

And, as already pointed out... Dont use the round pinned plugs for LED's unless you have know it is switched power (not dimmed) use standard 13a plugs...

Hope this helps a little.

You're replying to a message from April last year... I think it might all be over by now
