Craig Carver
Whats everyone using? I need something 8 inputs ideally with scaling with both SDI and HDMI inputs. Who's got a recommendation for me?

sameness
Vision mixer or seamless switcher? Big difference in functionality You could have an Ascender as a seamless switcher or a Roland V800 as a vision mixer.
empyfree
With scaling: Ascender 32Without scaling: data video HS2800, then smaller offerings from Roland and Datavideo. Like the look of the new Blackmagic ATEM HD announced yesterday... at that price it's worth a punt, even if you need a few decimators on the input side to take care of scaling. OddSocks
I'm using he Roland V800 that I got second hand. Feels good and solid, and works well. The only annoying thing is the HDCP, but I think that all equipment get hit with that.
Stuart91
The only annoying thing is the HDCP, but I think that all equipment get hit with that. I remember discussing this with a Kramer rep a while ago. Apparently if you are a member of the HDCP organisation, your products are scrutinised, and if you release something that defeats the copy protection, they will kick you out. I got the impression that he was very weary of customers asking him to provide ways around it.

Joe Fernand
If you are an 'HDMI Adopter' you agree to not defeat HDCP - it is an area where the non-Adopter 'HDMI' Brands have an advantage over the folk who play by the Rules. Joe
OddSocks
I totally agree with the idea behind HDCP and once when I got a pirate DVD contacted FACT, and got a very lacklustre reply. But it does men that if anyone supplies me with a DVD to play I have to think very carefully as to what output devices I am going to use as the Roland will not use any of the analogue outputs if the HDCP is turned on.
