Hi Just a quick one. Does anybody know of a web based rental software purely because im on a mac and cant seem to find anything that runs on mac. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks

Just get Fusion. It's about £60 and then you can use something Windows based. In the grand scheme of what things cost it's not a lot. Depending on the size of your inventory and how many users you need, you may well find there is a free option available for windows.

Or you can get Bento for Mac which is not rental software by any means but it's rather good database software which can easily be setup for rentals use as I have done before. Handily it includes an iPhone app which (if you have an iphone naturally) means you can check on thing without needing to be at the computer... quite good if out on a job or in the van.

I think you will have a hard time finding good rental software that is web based - due to the fact that a native application is often far more responsive than a web based application and most rental houses have people bashing out quotes all day. If you are after cross platform, HireEzy might be worth investigating... it is not a full featured system, but unless you are running a really big rental house I doubt that will be a big issue.

If you've searched the forum, you'll see I'm a staunch supporter of EasyJob and using a remote desktop option to access it on my PowerBook. Also for warehouse and cheap terminals the the hardware is considerably cheaper.

As others have said, a web app is likely to be more sluggish. Using the RDC over broadband from home is reasonably quick, despite our 1.5mb connection to the unit, and lightning quick in the unit. Bear in mind too that when BT drop a ###### like they did yesterday and your offline (because of a broadband fault), you won't be able to access any of your rental system...

Solution to the web based crap internet problem is to set up a mini websever on you network. LAMP, WAMP or MAMP (Depending on the OS) You can then make this accessible to the outside world if you needed too. :)

Rms anywhere is an entirely web based version of Rental Management Systems RMS package. As a Navigator user of old, (both Eclipse and Rental desk) I found the user interface a little alien, however, with more familiarity I would imagine it would become easier to use.

HireEzy as mentioned above does have a web (shop) interface which gives the owner remote access as well as providing a shop front if required, however I have found (personal opinion only) the support and response from these guys appalling - took over a month to get a working demo from them etc etc...

Failing that, most of the bigger (read more expensive) software packages are moving in that direction, Easy job - Insphire etc. the only ones that have flat out rejected the idea of web access is Navigator :(

I remember looking at this some time ago, but couldn't remember the name of the package until it was posted above. :)

IIRC, RMSAnywhere is the only 100% web version of a rental management package. It also seems to cover all we need for our industry, which (if you've ever tired other software packages) isn't always easy to find.

Cheers

David

I reckon Pete's suggestion is probably your best solution. We're Hiretrack users rather than Easy Job but we use remote desktop to our terminal server for remote access and is acceptably quick despite the fact we can only get a 1 Meg broadband connection at the office.

Hi,

Flex Rental Solutions is a relatively new web based rental management software package that seems to be becoming quite popular with some large companies both in the UK and America. I have no personal experience of it because we have almost completed implementing easyjob, but it looks like a comparable product with good support and regular updates.

There's no idea of cost against Flex - I'd be interested to see what it does cost on a monthly basis.

We bought EasyJob in September 2008, for £1800. We haven't had to pay a penny more since then. We've had 1 or two issues, that have be sorted rapidly through their online support, and for other issues anD tweaks, the forum is very helpful. Works out to around £43/month. That has given us unlimited jobs, barcoding, PAT test integration, 5 consecutive logins for Multiple users and the support. In case you hadn't noticed - I love easyJob....

Greetings from the Flex Team!

We created Flex Rental Solutions to solve this exact problem. We wanted to create a web based platform that would allow users to work anywhere in the world, using Mac, Windows, Linux and Android platforms without having to use any third party software to hack in what should be an easy offering in this day and age. There is no software for you to install at all, just a current web browser with a flash player and an internet connection.

We also did not write this to rent out DVD's and then decide to make this fit the live event production industry. Half of our staff come to this with years of live event experience using other software platforms. We understand the unique needs of the live production industry and strive to solve these problems elegantly.

The subscription pricing (typically $235 a month for a single warehouse with unlimited users) dramatically reduces up front costs. We released our offering at infoComm 2010. We currently have over 140 active customers around the world with over a thousand users on a daily basis. We have not tried to recreate the typical software on a web platform, but have tried to think differently and produce a software that is easy to use for the casual user, and very powerful and detailed for the heavy users. We feel that we have struck the right balance, as we are probably the fastest growing rental software platform out there and all this growth has taken place during a massive recession.

Our 60 day free trial offer allows you to find out for yourself if it has all the features you need. Go to http://www.flexrenta...om/request-demo to sign up for our online demo site and to get a proposal.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks,

Chris Stein

You were grabbing my attention until flash player was mentioned and then I realised that I won't be able to use the iPad to login to the system which is really dull!

Oh...and this bit has put me off too - £146 a month is a fair old whack! Maybe this is just for the bigger boys with the need for unlimited users and who have multiple licenses of HireTrack/EasyJob - £1800 p.a. on a cloud based solution seems a little steep to me (considering Pete bought EasyJob in 2008 for £1800 and has had it ever since!)
