Le Mark Studiotak

Hi, wondered if anyone has experience of this adhesive vinyl flooring. We have an incoming company who wish to use it for a week-long run, the issue is that there is no time to either clean or repaint the stage afterwards before the next show is in. Le Mark's blurb calls the lo tak version "Low-Tak 'Peel Clean' " Is that likely to be true after 8 days of a large amateur cast plus various bits of set on it? and will it take the paint with it?

Our stage floor is MDF painted with Flint's matt emulsion mixed with a small bit of PVA

Ta in advance

Have you spoken to Le Mark themselves? They were very helpful sorting me out with bits and pieces to match an incoming dance floor recently, and I am sure can answer your question. Email info@lemark.co.uk or phone 01480 494540. Assuming it is a dance floor your group are talking about it would be more normal to tape a dance floor around the edges on a stage rather than sticking it down, especially for a short period. However Le Mark will know - and you can tell us when you find out.

Have indeed emailed LeMark, and will pass on their reply. I have told them how dance floor lino is typically done, and that it is quite secure when done properly, but not sure they believe me :( .

Don't know the show, but am surmising that, given this is for a production of Hairspray, it might be the shiny version. If so, bet they haven't thought of dropping that little gem into the lx designer's in tray...

Have a wee search on LSI / LSI mag, I am sure I have seen some press from it being used in studios, maybe xfactorin the past about it, might be worth giving whoever wrote the piece a bell. In fact http://www.lsionline.co.uk/news/story/Le-Mark-s-Mirror-Floor-for-Rita-Ora/-WFKM4W

If it is anything like the NEC tape it is "peel clean", I do find that NEC leaves "bits" on the floor, its all in how you take it up, but it comes up with a rub with you shoe, it is by no means like gaff glue, more like a good quality bandage glue on your skin. IIR a slow steady peal is the way to go with NEC.

Yes dance floor is normally taped down, but as you can see from the first line, this is an adhesive vinyl flooring product :)

Hi David - but I only mentioned it as this was an amateur company bringing this floor with them, and this is not normal. If a professional ballet company came with a particular floor you know it is for reasons of safety but in this case, it doesn't make sense. Surely they haven't purchased the floor to use once? Or if they have "borrowed" it from someone, surely they will expect it back in perfect condition (and stuck down on a stage floor - however carefully swept first - is not going to do it any good!) In fact I don't know if the floor is designed to be reused once it has been pulled up, but we will see what Le Mark say about that.

I,ve used it before

Both the high tak and low tak

We bought the low tak for the floor and the high tak to cover some wooden music stand surounds we made

We accidentally stuck the high tak to the floor and it peeled of fine after the event

The low tak was too unsticky for the music stand surounds

Both products were one-use disposable

It does take a while and a lot of care to stick it down without bubles or creases, but it does give a nice finish and come in many colours

I,m not sure it will last 8 days of abuse without getting ripped and starting to look tatty. We used ours for one rehearsal and one show

Thanks, that was the kind of experience I was hoping to tap. Still no reply from LeMark themselves at time of writing...

When I enquired about the floor we were hiring (from someone else) for our ballet, I got a reply in about a microsecond. The lady who contacted me was Sharon Marshall who is their Performance Flooring Manager. Maybe you can try her if you don't hear from them soon?

Reply from Sharon:

Our low tack Studiotak is a peel clean product, however when using adhesives we can never guarantee how the adhesive will work. We have had no problems up to now.

Studiotak come in both gloss and matt finishes, in high and low tacks. Our colour range is high tack, however for customers who need this in low tak we suggest you use a low tack frosted Studiotak underneath.

Thought the 2nd paragraph was interesting, as I hadn't spotted that info from the website.

Thanks all for help on this one.
