  1. Just be wary of HDCP if any of your users are using Macs or iOS....
  2. Extron SMP series might work for you if you don't mind secondhand - there's a SMP351 on eBay right now for £199.
  3. We use the AT925's as our standard teaching gooseneck mic, though still have 747's for "prestigious" events like graduation ceremonies. No real complaints on the 925's - great little mic for the price!
  4. I'd advise against using personal devices to film it - GDPR is going to be a minefield, especially if it has to be removed later on down the line. There will be an official policy on being recorded, normally it's part of the Student Agreement they sign. Chances are the Uni will have a technical student society that might have the kit to do this. Or it will definitely have an AV department, probably with a purchasing contract that means all AV purchases have to go through them anyway. Perhaps get your daughter to get in touch with them and advise against a DIY route - going the official Uni route opens up access to educational discounts and business accounts you'd never know existed. £300 might go a little further than you might think.
  5. This is quite common in white collar boxing. Not great but gets the job done. For wrestling, don't forget you have a lot of action going on outside of the ring so spill from floods is probably desirable. It's not like you need to worry about blinding officials like you do at pro boxing shows! At the main venue we do boxing / wrestling we have 8 500w floods on a 3ft square assembly, 2 floods per side suspended above the ring. This is about 6m in the air from ground, so about 5m from the ring floor. It works ok for these shows but we supplement with LED washes from the sides (still about 4m above the ring) for pro shows. However even that isn't safe from wrestlers as one show they got hold of a ladder and suspended the belt from the lighting - winner was the first to get the belt. Cue me running to venue management..... Other venues we rely on house lighting being available and just supply the entrance pizazz. Tie into the rig if we can, if not then leave the lights on. It's not great, but remember this is more athletic theatre than sport!
  6. Most bluetooth HA's enter pairing mode when they're powered up, only for a short space of time though...
  7. If it's just an outline image you could use laser - software like Pangolin lets you upload custom images, expensive if you don't already have it though and eye safety has to be considerd.
  8. Can you just apply to Ofcom for an additional license for the duration of the run? I think that would be easier (and cheaper) than trying to source specific equipment that works in a particular frequency band?

    Uplighters

+1 for the QB1. The batteries don't last forever but replacements aren't pricey and they can be swapped out with a little effort. That range also has an 8 way charging case which would be really useful, and wireless DMX if you ever wanted to go that way (with the right Tx unit!).
  10. XR18 would work with an attached laptop (Mac is native multi-channel, not sure about Windows - always a pain with drivers). As suggested the rack kit can be installed back to front so you just have a blank 3U rack space (I've done this in lecterns where I don't want people fiddling). A&H Qu-SB would do direct to USB drive multitrack or USB B out, control via an iPad. But is 4U....
  11. We have 747's for spaces where we're engineering the event and they're awesome. In unattended spaces like most of our lecture theatres we used to use the AT935 as well but have now moved to the 925 on a 6" gooseneck which is tiny but picks up really well and sounds great. They do table mount or XLR versions - worth a look.
  12. Also worth consideration is the upskilling to get used to digital if you and other operators are coming from an analogue background. Touchscreens are a godsend but so are physical controls that will feel familiar during the transition. We've just switched to A&H from Soundcraft and while we're loving the flexibility the system gives us one thing we're missing is the fader glow Soundcraft have. Knowing if you're in LR, a Mix, a FX send or in GEQ fader flip is obvious with the coloured backlit faders, not as obvious on Qu or Sq and has caught me out a few times. That said I wouldn't go back!
  13. We use a few of these as well as the standard "58 style" cases. The pick and pluck foam works really well for adding mics, and we've found a few smaller cases works better as you can group mics by type easier - we have a case for clip on mics (E604's, E608's) a case for other drum mics (B52A's, B91A's, AE3000's) then a case for other mics (E609's etc). Makes finding them a doddle, and easier to account for at the end of the gig. Smaller cases are easier on the van too!
  14. Stage Electrics are Altair dealers, and we purchased our flightcase from them even though it's not showing on the website. Might be worth a phone call to see if they can supply what you want?
  15. Channels 24, 26, 27 and 29. That's a wide spread! We operate channels 28, 29 and 31 here on a co-ordinated site license through Ofcom - paying the £168 per year per channel. I guess £28 per frequency is £112 per year, a bit better but hope no-one else in the area is using one of those TV channels (at a guess - they will be!) Probably cheaper (and easier) if they returned it and just bought some Channel 38 kit.
