Midi from Multiplay to Screen Monkey

Hi all,

I am using trying Multiplay to control the majority of the show I am working on. I will be using Midi show control for advancing a cue list on the lighting console which I can know how to do. However I also would like to control the video projection through Multiplay. I have been trying to set it up so that Screen Monkey will listen for a MIDI note from Multiplay. However I am having difficulty with this.

In Multiplays production properties I have made a patch to "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth", which appeared as default. I presume this is a virtual MIDI device that can be used as a link between the two programs. However Screen Monkey can't find any MIDI devices, even though this was is supposedly active.

Is this even possible and can anyone see what I am doing wrong?

I can supply screenshots if necessary but I expect it's a simple thing I've missed.

Thank you

Hamish

You presume wrongly; the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is exactly that, a virtual softsynth. Feed it MIDI, it makes noise.

You need a MIDI loopback device, the best known of which is MIDI Yoke, which will do exactly what you need.

It just worries me the site hasn't been updated in years, so I have no idea if it runs on modern windows or not; my show machine is Xp!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Having installed MIDI Yoke, I must say that the instructions are a bit of a blast to the past! However I can't get it to work, the virtual device is not recognised under the device manager (that includes disabled devices too).

@alistermorton, I'd be interested to know how you installed it on Windows 7 which did away with much of XP's control panel and properties.

I used Midi-Ox (which is a standalone application, rather than mido-yoke which is a very different animal). That just worked without needing any special tinkering - just installed it and it ran.

That would explain why. Thanks for the advice, not got time right now to sort it at the moment but now I've got the software I should be able to work it out.

Thanks again,

Hamish
