Hi everyone,

I've been toying with the idea of getting another PA system. The purpose of which is to provide audio at events ranging from 200 people outside up to 1000 people inside doing things like 80s nights, tempoary nightclubs etc.

I'm firstly wondering weather I want to go down the active or passive route.

I currently have a Nexo PS8 system (4 x PS8, 4 x LS400) and a PS10R2 system (2 x PS-10R2 and 2 x LS600) all powered by Crown K2 amps. While the speakers are very good and small, the amp rack is HEAVY. Also where it's a single 15" sub and a 10" & 1" top they don't project too well as they can't move a whole lot of air; don't get me wrong it's an awesome system, I just want to move up a couple of notches!

Anyway, budget is around £10k. I'd ideally like to buy new or second hand from a fixed install only. I'd like wooden boxes, with decent projection qualities and capable of producing a good amount of sub-bass.

If I want to go active I was condidering the HK Audio Projector system or possibly something from KV2 or perhaps the QSC KW system.

Passive wise I've been looking at either a Nexo PS15R2 system or perhaps a Martin Audio H3+/S218 system.

What would you guys reccomend?

Thanks.

You could also look at Turbosound NU-Q Series,
Available as DP (Digital Powered) or Passive.
Moving up, there is also the Aspect series 3 way systems. Again DP or Passive.

£10,000 your close to Nexo Alpha E second hand price.

Your going to want something fully hornloaded to cope with 1000 people. Id stay clear of HK purely for keeping to riders. Ground stacked point source is deffinattly the way to go for you I think :)

Look at the following systems.... EAWkf850 / SB850.... Martin Audio W8 / WSX.......... Nexo Alpha.......TurboSound TFL760..... Meyer MSL4

Just remember a speaker is only as good as the amp / signal driving it ;)

I wasn't aware that HK was deemed as unacceptable for riders? Also, having looked closer at the HK audio spec sheets, it quotes 10% THD! And the perfomance figures themselves aren't exactly flattering.

I've convinced myself slightly more that active would be better, Nexo Alpha is probably going to be excellent but the weight of the amps is going to make it so so so heavy!

Depends on the type of amps you go for with Nexo; Camco Vortex digital amps are fairly light and do the job for an Alpha system made up of 6 M3s, 6 B1s and 4 S2s.

What about looking at a KV2 'ex' rig? All powered speakers, but got a small foot-print. You should be able to get what you need for 10k....2 bins (2x12") and 4 tops (10") That will give you 4000wRMS. Sensitivity wise long term about 126-129dB mark. Check them out!!

The HK Contour is sneaking on to riders but that is way way way out of your price range. Modern switch mode amplifiers are very light and extremly powerfull. As mentioned above, not my favourote amp but widely used on the alpha series Vortex 6 puts out around 3krms per channel and weights less than 15kg!!!!

I personally have 2 amp racks one with Lab Gruppen and one with Full Fat Audio. the lab rack puts out around 16kw rms and weighs 40kg

You wont get good quality sound out of an active box and cover 1000 people (propperly) for £10,000

Sorry to kick you in the balls but your going to have to buff your self up if you want to play with the bigger gigs ;)

Nice speakers, but I'd suggest that sensitivity is a little less than this.... The max long term SPL is cited as 126dB ;-)
For what it's worth, a speaker with such a sensitivity and with 500W applied should generate about 153dB

Having heard the KV2 stuff, I really don't like the sound of it, you'd be better off going for the Alpha (I don't like that either though)

It's still not a great PA for the money though.

The guy selling that Opus system is a muppet. Ive tried to buy certain bits of him and he is nothing but a nightmare......
The HB215's are not a sub and would really need the SB21 or the SB218 underneath them. Plus the Opus HD amp racks are serious weight.

Have a listen to a Alpha E rig system.

The above KV2 system would be nice for a conference of around 100-200 people but anything else you wont have the balls.

Really? I think the KV2 stuff is quite amazing! I take it you've heard the ES system in your locality?
