Lifelike animals with a possibility to animatronics

Hey all,

Scenario....

a handful of kids go to a petting zoo, they pick up some furry animals, they're quite far downstage, budget around £100

Had a couple of thoughts on this is to find reasonably cheap lifelike animals... simple no?

Now they want some form of movement to come from the animals...I was thinking along the lines of ripping out some animatronics from existing kids toys and throwing them into the lifelike ones..

Anyone ever done anything like this before... Ideas thoughts... (Around a dozen animals that fit the bill that I can borrow?)

Kids and animals eh.....(doh..)

Thanks

Ben

speakers for a youth centre

we are converting our spare church hall into a multi-use site, with it being used a youth centre / mum's & toddlers etc most of the time. We will be upgrading (not that it is difficult from 4 x DAP Audio cheap EV SX300 copies and a very broken Behringer desk!) our sound, and having a semi-installed system.

We will need four speakers (probably), but what are our options for speakers that are durable, so will take a kick from a soft football without the need for a guard? Budget is a funny thing, but I guess somewhere in the region £1,500 - £2,000 would be good, and if that could include the amp.

In terms of desk, I will keep an eye on the parallel thread for small mixers, as we currently run an A&HGl2800 for Sunday's so having another A&H product would be good.

We probably plan to house the amp in the same rack of the desk so that it can wheeled in and out without too much hassle.

LED Batons/Strips

I am currently running lights on an outdoor stage. (A FreeStage Medium, if you're interested http://www.stagepartner.at/index.asp?pg_nr...28&lang=en) upon which we have Rap/Hip-Hop Band primarily but we do have rock bands and gospel choirs every now and then.

We own 20 LED Par 56's and use them to bolster the show. Not by lighting the stage because at the moment even 1K floods a struggling but we use them to add a little bit more interest.

We would like to expand what we've got; to increase the impact of the lights.

I've been looking at LED Batons/Strips and think that is the way I would like to go. However with so many thousands available and good sales pitches Im struggling to see the pros and cons of batons.

Basically my thought is that the stage roof is very high above the artists so anything I do on lights is only jst in peoples line of sight but to suspend the Batons vertically would draw people into the show. I know this could be distracting but I want to upgrade from chases across the cans on the roof to making a lighting show that enhances the act on stage.

Will this work? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Also: Blinders/Sunstrips Do they need dimmers? or are they jst run off individual power lines? and which makes and models are better?

Thanks in Advance

D

controlling NJD spectres

Hi all,

I have 5 NJD spectres which I use live when I play in a band, which I control with an NJD S-pedal controller.

I would also like to control them from FOH position when doing PA gigs. I have a Jester 12/24 which I use when I bring out my PAR cans and dimmers but this is of course quite difficult to use with spectres.

Can anyone suggest a small DMX controller which has limited functionality similar to the foot pedal (a couple of scenes and colour chases, possibly with sound to light capability), which I could put next to my mixer which wouldn't look so out of place as my foot pedal board.

It would of course need to be fairly in-expensive,

Thanks,

Steve

What Digital Desk

So,

I have been hiring & using a Roland M400 or LS9 / M7 on a regular basis for live music jobs and have decided to make the great leap and invest in a digital desk with accompanying stage-boxes over cat5.

While I really like the simplicity of the M400, I preffer the M7, but have been looking at the likes of the Digico SD9 and Soundcraft vi series. Then there's the A&H I-Live.....

I am pretty certain that there are die-hard fans of each variety, but seriously, which would be the best to go for with long -- term adaptability. I am touring the rig in medium (350 - 800) sized venues and want the best possible platform.....Recomendations?

Cheers

Milton Keynes Warrior's Dance Festival

Afternoon all,

As the title suggests, last weekend I puntered at the Warrior's Dance Festival in the Milton Keynes Bowl, with The Prodigy headlining and amongst others, Pendulum supporting. I was simply curious to the overall power consumption/distribution for the main stage as far as all things technical went.

I could see there was a large number of 8 cell moles rigged around the edges of the stage and nearby video truss, something like 48 in total. Add to that the large number of Atomic 3000 strobes all over the set, various moving heads rigged across the front stage bar, side pearches and on the set, along with a huge amount of LED kit.

Being at the MK Bowl, the PA was typically large, with (I think) two large arrays FOH with 4 delays towers, all with related subs low down. The subs I suspect would have been working particularly hard considering the type of music.

All in all, it seemed to be a large demand for power and I was interested if anyone happened to work the event or knew how it was supplied.

Cheers

WhiteAir
